Ito Onsen Yukawa Bentennoyu

Ito Onsen Yukawa Bentennoyu

2-9-9, Yukawa, Ito City, Shizuoka Pref.

Good old days are here. A superb hot water flowing from the source, with quietly standing in a residential area.

That's so Ito, the colorless and clear hot water is flowing from the source. Mild and gentle hot water.

It's in the common residential area. It has not been a tourist destination at all and a relaxed and nostalgic atmosphere.

A communal bathhouse near the station, just a 4-minute walk from the station if you don't get lost. You can also take a bath while waiting for the train.

Travel journal of day trip bathing to hot spring

Characters

Nishi-san
Nishi-san
He is an orthodox hot springs lover and particular about quality of springs. He loves the hot springs flowing from the source, the hot water with a presence, and the rustic atmosphere.
Kita-san
Kita-san
He doesn't care much about quality of hot springs. He loves the open-air bath, and prefers hot springs that have visible features such as good views.

"The Seven Deities of Good Fortune" bathhouses tour in Ito Onsen [the 5th bath]

(→ Continuation from the 4th bath, Matsubara Daikokutenjinnoyu. The 1st bath is Ebisu Arainoyu.)
Nishi-san and Kita-san, who are visiting the bathhouses of the Seven Deities of Good Fortune bathhouses in Ito Onsen, next is "Yukawa Bentennoyu". Yukawa Bentennoyu are only 200 m (656 ft) apart in a straight line from Matsubara Daikokutenjinnoyu. But because it's a residential area, so there are no landmarks to find out it. Nishi-san and Kita-san, who can't find out it, they seem quite lost ...

I guess it should be around here. But it doesn't look like there's a hot spring ...

We've mistaken the road?

Hmm, could be ... Oh, this is a national route. Well ... then ... this is ...

Are we going back a little?

Yukawa Bentennoyu information board, Ito Onsen

Information board

Hmm ... yeah ... Oh! there's a signboard! ... But, is it here?

This alley ... It's so hard to find it. I used a lot of energy to come here ...

Finally they've arrived in front of Bentennoyu.

Yukawa Bentennoyu exterior, Ito Onsen

Exterior

The locals-like atmosphere is emanating from it.

True. But the fact the locals get in, it's sure a nice hot water.

Yukawa Bentennoyu Benten statue, Ito Onsen

Benten statue

Oh? It shows something. The origin of Bentennoyu ... I'll read it after bathing.

... You won't read it.

Get in and go to the undressing room.

Yukawa Bentennoyu undressing room, Ito Onsen

Undressing room

It's a run-down bathhouse, you know.

No, no, you're wrong. You should say it has aged well. And a nostalgic feeling. It's run-down but clean well.

Oh, you said run-down now.

So? It's just your imagination.

Immediately go to the bathing room. Also here, there is a bathtub in the center.

Yukawa Bentennoyu bathtub, Ito Onsen

Bathtub

Boy, it's brighter than I thought. Because the tiles have bright color?

That's one of the reasons. The hot water is ... oh, nice too. It's fresh. Probably flowing from the source.

I see. Water is not too hot than others, and pleasant.

It's the best not to make any additions to the water.

So? I guess it's the best to make the water just right temperature, with adding water or heating, though.

Hahaha, you've got a point.

Benten is the deity of financial fortune, music, and art. The temple associated with Benten is Shogetsuin on the opposite side of Ito Station. Various types of sakura trees are planted, so it's called "Sakura Temple".

Nishi-san and Kita-san have been soaking in the bath for a while. They've gone out of the bath.

Okay, let's go to the station.

Oh, we've taken five baths today. It's getting dark, why don't you drink around Ito station? Or go back to Odawara and ...

What are you saying? We'll move to Minami Ito Station and go to Kamata Fukurokujunoyu.

Eh? What!? Still going!?

Of course. Because going all the Seven Deities of Good Fortune is the purpose of today. No wonder, you know.

You can continue on another day ...

That's meaningless. Going around all in one day has meaning. Now, let's go!

Nishi-san, who thought that Yukawa Bentennoyu near Ito Station was today's last. He has never thought that he will get on the Izukyu, the opposite direction from the way home. (→ Continue to the 6th bath, Kamata Fukurokujunoyu)

(June 2015)

By the way, there are communal baths called "Komochiyu" and "Shiodomenoyu" other than "Bentennoyu" in the Yukawa area. All these sources are in common.

Today's Detour

Okane dry seafoods shop

Okane Himono (dry seafoods) shop

Dry seafoods are a specialty of Ito, and you can see them lining up at various stores in the city. In where such a dry seafoods-central, "Okane" is the elegant dry seafoods shop on the street in front of the station. The interior is bright and clean. The salt koji dry seafoods here is appetizing with exquisite salt and the flavor of the koji. It's also a nice point that the vacuum packing is perfect for souvenirs. (→ Okane Himono website)
