The birthplace of Ito Onsen, which began at the end of the 16th century. It's called "Wada-no-Oyu", that is colorless and transparent hot water, was liked by Shogun and poets.
A large amount of colorless, transparent, simple hot water is gushing from the center of the bathtub.
Located in the center of Ito City, easy to stop by during sightseeing in Ito Onsen.
The oldest hot spring in Ito, that was opened by a headman of Wada Village (of that time) in 1598 (before the Edo period). It is also dedicated to the third generation Shogun TOKUGAWA Iemitsu, and ranked higher than other communal baths. It is said that the poet TANEDA santoka in the Taisho era also liked this onsen bathhouse.

Travel journal of day trip bathing to hot spring
Characters
- Nishi-san
- He is an orthodox hot springs lover and particular about quality of springs. He loves the hot springs flowing from the source, the hot water with a presence, and the rustic atmosphere.
- Kita-san
- He doesn't care much about quality of hot springs. He loves the open-air bath, and prefers hot springs that have visible features such as good views.
"The Seven Deities of Good Fortune" bathhouses tour in Ito Onsen [the 3rd bath]
(→ Continuation from the 2nd bath, Bishamonten Shibanoyu.
The 1st bath is Ebisu Arainoyu.)
Nishi-san and Kita-san are going around the bathhouses of the Seven Deities of Good Fortune in Ito Onsen today.
The third bathhouse is "Wada Jurojinnoyu" which is about 8-minutes walk from Bishamonten Shibanoyu.
Because they coming from the direction of Shibanoyu,
they've arrived at the behind of the building, not in front.
Jurojin statue
Oh? There is a Namako wall ... Oh, That's a signboard of Wada Jurojinnoyu. Here we are.
Oh, there is a Jurojin statue. Boy, this is ... This building is still new too.
Wadayu Hall exterior
Right, but that's big too. I expected a more common feels buiding.
Well, the bigger wouldn't be bad. Look, it says "Wada-no-Oyu". It probably means a big bathtub.
Goodwill
Jeez, does "Oyu" mean so that? I don't think it's correct ...
Yes, surely. That's a good thing, you know.
Well, OK. Let's leave it at that.
The two get into the building. The undressing room has a neat impression.
Undressing room
Certainly it's new, and laid-back.
No doubt. In short, not a business for tourists.
Get into the bathing room. A typical Ito communal bathhouse style with a bathtub in the center and washing areas around the bathtub.
Well, the bathing room is big, right?
It's big for a communal bathhouse. And it's clean and neat. Good.
Yeah, I like the clean feeling. Looks like the bathtub is made of black granite.
♨ This is Namako Wall.
♨ Jurojin is the deity of longevity. The temple related to Jurojin is Saiseiji in Otonashi Forest in the central part of Ito. About 5-minute walk from Wada Jurojinnoyu.
♨ The current Wadayu Hall has opened in 2008.
The bathtub has a hot water spout at the bottom of the center. It's a common style in the communal bathhouses in Ito Onsen.
Bathtub
Yeah, it's a lot of overflowing. With hot water spouting from the pipe in the center, the surface of the water is rising, isn't it?
Oh! That's a bit too hot ...
True, it's a bit hot. But this is just right for the hot water character, I'm sure. It's nifty that going out of the bath quickly after refreshing with this fresh hot water.
That's right. Then, let's go out of the bath now.
No, wait! Wait a minute! I've just got in, and just a little more, to enjoy this plenty of onsen water flowing,
It's nifty that going out of the bath quickly after refreshing. You don't get it!
Umm ... well ... right ... then ... let's go out of it ...
OK. If you don't do it quickly, you won't go around all the Seven Deities of Good Fortune!
Nishi-san, who was tricked by Kita-san, wanted to enjoy a little more of the hot water of Wada Jurojinnoyu, but he has pulled himself together and headed to the next Seven Deities of Good Fortune, "Matsubara Daikokutenjinnoyu". (→ Continue to the 4th bath, Matsubara Daikokutenjinnoyu)
(June 2015)
♨ The source of Wada Jurojinnoyu is where the old Wadayu Hall was built. By the way, both Wada Jurojinnoyu and Shibanoyu are managed by Kusumi Property ward, and the source is the same.
Impression & rating
The hot water is colorless, transparent and has few features, but it's good that the amount of hot water is large and fresh.

Impression & rating
It's a little restless when there are many customers, but I feel so good to see the hot water gushing up from the center of the bathtub.
