Characters

Nishi-san
Nishi-san
He is an orthodox hot springs lover and particular about quality of springs. He loves the hot springs flowing from the source, the hot water with a presence, and the rustic atmosphere.
Kita-san
Kita-san
He doesn't care much about quality of hot springs. He loves the open-air bath, and prefers hot springs that have visible features such as good views.

(→ Continuation from Ryokan Tamagoyu)
Nishi-san and Kita-san who enjoyed Tamagoyu, then headed to the Publick Bath "Attakayu". The snow is still falling, sometimes getting stronger.

Takayu Onsen is such a place. There is no restaurant-like shop. What is everybody doing for a meal?

Well, at the inn, they may do them all.

Maybe so. I think that if you open a Ramen shop, you'll get a lot of customers.

Yeah, especially on such a snowy day .... Boy, I want to eat Ramen ... I wonder if there is a Ramen shop ...

A Ramen shop didn't appear at all, but arrived at Attakayu instead.

Attakayu Exterior

Oh, we arrived.

Um, it's too cold! For now, let's get in an onsen bath.

OK, OK.

You can see the source from Attakayu parking lot. (If there is no snow)

They put their valuables in the lockers, and went down the stairs to the bathing room.

Is this a recent public bath? Isn't it clean and new?

I don't think it's recently, but surely clean. Looks like it's cleaned up well.

Attakayu has only one open-air bath. When they opened the door from the undressing room, the bathtub came into their eyes in front.

Attakayu bathtub, Takayu Onsen

Bathtub

Wow, it's pretty good!

It's just an open-air bath. It's simple.

The water is still sky blue. Just that, feels like I got a gain.

Exactly.

Soon they entered the bathtub.

Bathtub and Washing area

I like this hot water! There are plenty of yunohana.

It's great taking the open-air bath with this hot water. The good thing is, it's not an indoor bath but an open-air bath.

Well, in any case, to enjoy the hot water, the simple bathtub is the best.

Kita-san noticed the posting near the hot water spout.

Attakayu has opened in 2003.

Attakayu hot water spout, Takayu Onsen

Hot water spout

Hmm? What is this ... Uh, it says that "don't enter near the hot water spout". Hydrogen sulfide gas is coming with the hot water.

Oh, I see. In short, inhaling hydrogen sulfide gas is dangerous.

Hydrogen sulfide gas smells of sulfur. Is it dangerous?

It seems that if you inhale a high concentration gas, you may faint or die.

Oh, yes ... but, that means you can't relax with the smell of sulfur, you know. Because it's dangerous. Isn't it more relaxing to smell chlorine? Because it's cleaner and safer.

Mmmm, it's convincing ... No, in short, it's just like alcohol. It'll be poison if you have a lot, but it feels good if you have the right amount.

Aha! I see.

Nishi-san and Kita-san in relax mode with the moderate smell of sulfur. They enjoyed the sky blue hot water of Takayu Onsen to their heart's content.

Break room

Scenery from Break room

After the bath, taking a rest at the break room. A fan alone is not enough to cool down. The outside of the slightly opened window looks like it has completely returned to winter. Coming of the Sakura Front in Fukushima may be a little further away.

(April 2019)

Attakayu has a short distance from the source to the bath, and the hot water is very fresh. But it is possible that hydrogen sulfide gas may not be able to escape enough. It seems that they did not make the indoor bath because they concerned that hydrogen sulfide gas would stay.

Impression & rating

The hot water is the freshest in Takayu, and has a great presence. This is a wonderful public bath without a complaint.
