Jizonoyu Toyokan

Jizonoyu Toyokan

1981, Hajika-cho, Ashikaga City, Tochigi Pref.

Dark reddish brown hot water has a lot of iron. Hot water is poured from the spout of the cute statue of Jizo-san, and you can relax both physically and mentally.

Jizonoyu is a hot spring inn that was founded in the late Meiji Era (about 1910). When you soak in dark reddish brown hot water that contains a lot of iron and metasilicic acid, you can relax both physically and mentally.

The wall of the rest area is decorated with paintings and is like a little gallery. You can settle down after the bath.

Ashikaga City is dotted with temples, shrines and "Ashikaga School" (the oldest school in Japan) etc. ("Ashikaga School" is certified as "Japan Heritage" by the Japanese government.) And also Ashikaga Flower Park, famous for wisteria, is must-see.

Travel journal of day trip bathing to hot spring

Characters

Nishi-san
Nishi-san
He is an orthodox hot springs lover and particular about quality of springs. He loves the hot springs flowing from the source, the hot water with a presence, and the rustic atmosphere.
Kita-san
Kita-san
He doesn't care much about quality of hot springs. He loves the open-air bath, and prefers hot springs that have visible features such as good views.

One day.

Let's go to Ashikaga Flower Park! The wisteria seems to be really amazing! They're also lit up at night!

Wisteria? Hmm, wisteria ... Well, good.

Then, let's go to a nearby hot spring to adjust the time.

That's why Nishi-san and Kita-san came to Ashikaga City in Tochigi Prefecture. Before going to Ashikaga Flower Park, headed to Jizonoyu Toyokan. A 20-minute walk from JR Omata Station that is the third station from Ashikaga Flower Park Station.

Jizonoyu Toyokan exterior

Exterior

Oh, this is it. It looks like ...

It's all-too-common.

Well, in short, that's right.

When they enter the hall, paintings are hung on the walls of the lobby and the rest area.

Jizonoyu Toyokan lobby

Lobby (Rest area)

Wow, it's a bit like a gallery, you know.

That's surprising. Paintings of famous painters? Or local unknown?

Maybe, someone with a connection to Ashikaga.

The two headed to the bath, looking sideways at the paintings on the wall. At the bath, ...

Jizonoyu Toyokan indoor bath

Indoor bath

Oh, it's so beautiful! Two-color bathtub!

Reddish brown water seems like Jizonoyu hot spring. First here.

It's dark cloudy water, you know.

Looking at this color, in short, it has a lot of iron. ... Oh, there are some Yunohana.

Jizonoyu Toyokan indoor bath hot water spout

Jizo statue on the hot water spout

Look, Jizo on the spout ... 'Cause Jizo-no-yu?

It's cheesy.

That's it.

By the way, what is that blue bathtub?

The water itself is transparent. But it's just the right hot water.

I see. So, it's not a hot spring.

After that, they went to an open-air bath.

Jizonoyu Toyokan open-air bath

Open-air bath

Anyway, it's nice to have an open-air bath.

Is this a hot spring? ... Not a hot spring, plain water.

Even so, it's nice to bath while breathing outside air.

Maybe it is ... That aside, there is a bathtub in this hut, too.

The hut has an indoor bath called "Senninnoyu".

Jizonoyu Toyokan Senninnoyu

Senninnoyu

However, Nishi-san, after entering Senninnoyu, he came out in 10 seconds.

That's too fast. Didn't you like it?

It's just plain water, not hot spring.

Huh, why not take this open-air bath again?

This is just plain water too. After all, the hot spring is just before cloudy water ...

That's why Nishi-san enjoyed the Jizonoyu cloudy water, and Kita-san enjoyed the open-air bath. After the bath, take a short break in the rest area. Then they went to Ashikaga Flower Park.

The name of "Jizonoyu" is derived from "Yaku-yoke Jizo-do", which is enshrined in a neighborhood.

Wisteria in Ashikaga Flower Park

Light pink wisteria

Wisteria in Ashikaga Flower Park

Large and long wisteria

Nishi-san and Kita-san have slowly walked while watching the wisteria flowers until the night.

As I thought, it's so beautiful. Nice to come today.

Exactly, but it's been a lot cold since night ... It's pretty cold.

... Hmm. Perhaps the order was reversed? Wisteria after hot spring ...

Well, in common sense, it's reversed.

At the end, they felt cold, but still Nishi-san and Kita-san enjoyed the spectacular view only during this season.

(April 2019)

Ashikaga Flower Park is famous for wisteria, but seasonal flowers and winter illuminations are also very beautiful.

Impression & rating

The hot water is not fresh, but it is dark reddish brown and has Yunohana, so enough to enjoy the atmosphere of a hot spring.

Impression & rating

In appearance, the combination of reddish brown and blue bathtubs are vivid and nice. The open-air bath was not so bad.
